Hello there. Thank you for taking an interest in my collection of designs.
My name is Russ and I'm a British freelance graphic/surface pattern designer with a 12 year background in graphic design and web design. I'm on a (very long) tour of South America and my current location is... Brazil!
If you haven't already noticed, I am a big fan of geometry, generative art, and punchy colour palettes. The patterns that you see on this website are the end result of my human/machine collaboration. I use algorithms to harness the power of randomness and combine this with crafted tiles and limited colour palettes. Geometry creates the possibility to combine simple shapes in an almost unlimited number of ways, most of which are totally unexpected and endlessly fascinating.
Much of my inspiration comes from things that I see as I travel. It might be a selection of colours used in a piece of graffiti or it may be the shapes on a seemingly bland concrete floor tile. I take photos and then begin experimenting when back at my desk. Sometimes I know the kind of result that I am aiming for but many times I am surprised by the outcome.
Once I'm happy with the result, I then work on turning it into a seamlessly repeating design that can be printed onto almost anything.
If you have a product or project in mind that you think would look rather good with these designs, do get in touch. You can email me via firstname.lastname@example.org.
